Frequently Asked Questions

How is the average waiting time for a first appointment calculated?

answer

It shows the average (mean) number of weeks between the date the hospital received the referral and the first outpatient appointment date.

The data is based on people who have already been referred and have a first outpatient appointment booked.

Please note that these are average waiting times and do not reflect the exact time people should expect to wait for their appointment. Waiting times within a specialty will vary by condition and depend on how urgent treatment is.

Where is the data sourced from?

answer

The waiting time is based on data provided by hospitals in south east London.

Does the data take into account community services?

answer

The waiting time information only includes secondary care hospital outpatient services at the three south east London acute Trusts hospital sites in south east London; it does not include community services.

How often is the waiting times data updated?

answer

The waiting times data is refreshed once a week. The last day that it was refreshed can be seen below the waiting times table.
